Converting a Civil Partnership to a Marriage

The law has recently changed allowing couples in a civil partnership to convert their civil partnership to a marriage.

The same law has also amended the Wills Act 1837 so that converting a civil partnership to a marriage will not revoke a person’s Will.

However, if you have not previously entered into a civil partnership and are planning on getting married the law would not apply and your Will would be revoked. Your Will would also be revoked if you are planning on entering a civil partnership.

If you have any questions about the consequences of the change in the law or would like to enquire about making a Will please contact Katie Ward in our private client department on 020 7406 1000 or email KatieWard@cartercamerons.com.
