Home Office has extended the use of expired BRP and BRC cards until June 2025 due to issues with getting an eVisa account

This is an update following the previous news article on this topic available at: Migrants urged to use expired BRP cards to get to UK after 31 December 2024.

As per the latest statistical data published by the Home Office, around 4 million UK visa holders have already successfully created an account to access their eVisa. At the same time, an estimated 600,000 people are yet to switch from their physical document to an eVisa.

We would like to remind our readers that back in December 2024, visa holders were urged to use BRP and BRC cards beyond 31 December and up until 31 March 2025, due to concerns over people’s travelling plans and the risk of failing to get eVisa accounts for everyone on time.

Therefore, the Home Office has extended the right to use expired Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) and Biometric Residence Cards (BRC) until 1 June 2025, thus moving the deadline forward by two more months.

However, the Home Office also underlined that from 2 June 2025, expired BRP and BRC cards will no longer be acceptable evidence of immigration status when travelling to the UK.
