A new route has opened which allows overseas senior or specialist workers to carry out temporary work assignments in the UK. The worker must be assigned to a UK business linked to their overseas employer (aka an ‘intra-company transfer’/’ICT’).

To qualify, the applicant must:

  • Have worked for the overseas employer for at least 12 months (unless earning £73,900+ per year).
  • Hold a certificate of sponsorship issued within 3 months before applying.
  • Undertake a job in an eligible occupation code at RQF Level 6 or above.
  • Show sufficient funds for UK living (unless they’ve lived in the UK with permission for at least 12 months).
  • Earn at least £42,400 or the going rate for the role.

Visa Duration and Conditions:

If granted, the visa will be valid for the shortest of the following:

  • Job end date plus 14 days, or
  • 5 years from the job start date.

The total leave cannot exceed 5 years in any 6-year period under Global Business Mobility routes. For higher earners, the limit is 9 years in any 10-year period.

Applicants with certain existing permissions (e.g., visitor, short-term student) cannot switch to this route. However, switching to another route may be possible if requirements are met.

Dependents can apply, but this route does not lead to settlement.

There are further requirements, some of which may apply depending on your circumstances.
