Litigation Partner quoted in Guardian piece on homebuyers facing “rip off” ground rents

Carter Lemon Camerons’ Graham Balchin was quoted in an article in The Guardian newspaper last month on the widespread problem of onerous ground rents in leasehold property, which are often disguised by obscure wording.

Many homebuyers have found the value of their property substantially reduced or in the worst cases, made completely worthless, by “hidden” ground rent clauses in which annual payments increase dramatically a few years into the lease.

Graham  is advising leaseholders on professional negligence claims against solicitors who have failed to warn  them about these ground rent clauses when they bought the property.
