A new route has opened allowing temporary work assignments in the UK for overseas workers who are undertaking an assignment in the UK to provide a service covered by a UK international trade agreement.

Eligibility:

• Must be either:
  • A contractual service supplier employed by an overseas provider, or
  • A self-employed independent professional based overseas.
• Must have worked for the overseas service provider or in the sector for at least 12 months.
• The role must be sponsored and fall under an appropriate occupation code.
• The sponsor must be authorised by the Home Office and A-rated.
• A valid certificate of sponsorship is required.
• Must demonstrate sufficient funds unless living in the UK for 12+ months.

Key details:

• The visa duration is 6-12 months, depending on the trade agreement.
• Cumulative leave cannot exceed 5 years in any 6-year period under Global Business Mobility routes.
• Applicants with certain existing permissions (e.g. visitor or short-term student) cannot switch to this route.
• Dependents can apply.
• This route does not lead to settlement.
